Kampala Archdiocese has ordained 19 priests and 15 deacons at a colourful ceremony held at the Cathedral Lubaga led by the Archbishop Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga.

In his homily Dr. Lwanga acknowledged each one’s contribution right from the parents to the formation directors for the great work done in nurturing the newly ordained to help in evangelisation, administration of sacraments and defending the Roman Catholic Church.

He urged the new priests ordained in the golden Jubilee year of the archdiocese to be true witness of Christ in priestly vows and in all duties of priesthood as the diocesan jubilee theme stands; Remember Rejoice and Renew.

Dr. Lwanga urged the entire congregation to exercise restraint on earthly desires and strive to be true in their life. Greed, drunkenness, hatred and envy are evil that abuse the spirit of unity and yet a Christian and the Catholic Church builds on the principal of love and unity.

Unlike the usual way of celebrations the deacons will not celebrate thanks giving masses today Saturday but for the priests they will do it on Sunday from their parents home.

On the issue of constitutional amendments on the land act 26 Dr. Lwanga like other members through the inter-religious council of Uganda, the Uganda law society among other, said amending the article for government to compulsorily take private land for national projects and compensate the owner at will is a total violation of the right to property and land.

Drawing from the Old Testament in the holy bible Dr. Lwanga said in such a jubilee year people were demanded to return grabbed land as a sign of reconciliation and it was regarded as sacred for the great grand fathers that it must be protected.

He urged civil leaders especially parliamentarians to live to their vow of protecting the constitution than abrogating it for self interests.
