The Uganda Catholic Secretariat held a social evening for the Catholic Bishops and heads of the associate institutions with the entire catholic secretariat staff at Nsambya where four category of members received gifts.

His eminence Cardinal Emmanuel Wamala received a gift in gratitude for his service and clocking 90 years of age, Fr. Timothy Ssemogerere who was the executive secretary for Pastoral liturgical commission his contract ended December 2016 and Sr. Maria Nakibuuka Kalema who was working with Pontifical Mission Societies now the mother of the congregation of st. peter claver at Nsambya and Mr./Mrs Geraldine Lwanyaga who celebrated 25 years in marriage, Geraldine works with the catholic social communications commission as secretary.

The Chairman Uganda Episcopal Conference Archbishop John Baptist Odama while addressing the gathering paid gratitude to God for the gift of life, Catholic Church and its institution and all the staff for their resilience in offering service to the church.

Arch Odama congratulated Hoima diocese through its ordinary Rt. Rev. Vincent Kirabo for the successful hosting of the 2017 Uganda Martyrs day celebrations at the Uganda Martyrs Catholic Shrine Namugongo where demographers estimate to have attracted nearly three million pilgrims plas those who attended the same day at the Anglican Martyrs Shrine which is just two miles from the Catholic Shrine.

He announced next year’s Uganda Martyrs day host will be Tororo ecclesiastical province and Archbishop Emanuel Obbo together with his administration will choose a diocese that will animate at the day. It will coincide with the centenary celebrations since the blessed Daudi Okello and Gildo Irwa were killed for their faith in Kitgum.

The two blessed are normally celebrated on October 20th in Kitgum but their centenary will be carried early from October to the June 3rd celebrations on 2018.
