The Archbishop of Tororo, Rt. Rev. Emmanuel Obbo has confirmed that the 2018 June 3rd Uganda Martyrs’ day celebrations will be organized by the Archdiocese itself at Namugongo Catholic Shrine Namugongo.

In the weekly diocesan meeting held on Tuesday June 27th His grace Obbo said, the Archdiocese will be leading other dioceses in the archdiocese like, Jinja, Soroti, Moroto and Kotido and the entire Catholic Church in Uganda.

Hoima diocese was the last year’s animator of the Martyr’s day celebrations which attracted more than 3 million local and foreign pilgrims across the world.

In early June 2017, the Chairman Uganda Episcopal Conference Archbishop John Baptist Odama announced Tororo Ecclesiastical province to animate next year’s martyrs’ day celebrations at Namugongo Catholic shrine leaving the opportunity for provincial Archbishop Obbo together with his administration to determine the diocese to take the lead.

Next year’s martyrs day celebrations will coincide with the centenary celebrations since the blessed Daudi Okello and Gildo Irwa were killed for their faith in Kitgum.

The two blessed are normally celebrated on October 20th in Kitgum but their centenary will be carried early from October to the June 3rd celebrations on 2018.
