The Uganda National Examinations Board UNEB has released the 2018 Primary Leaving Examinations PLE with improved performance at the overall level compared to the previous years and boys passed excellently well than girls although they were more in number.

77,133 candidates representing almost 12% got Division One, 272,861(53.4%) in Division II, 142,201 (75.1%) in Division III, 107,398 (91.4%) in Division IV while 56.105(8.6%) failed.

English was the best done subject followed by Social Studies and Science; however Mathematics remains a problem to the candidates.

Luzira Prisons registered 73 candidates for PLE, 65 appeared for the exams and 2 got first grade, 26 second grade, 30 got third fourth grades in equal numbers and 7 failed.

According to the UNEB Executive Secretary Dan Odongo, A total of 671,923 candidates registered for PLE but 655,698 sat for exams from 3072 centers 488,860 candidates were from UPE schools while 152,466 were from private schools.

At least exams of 3500 pupils have been withheld due to exam malpractice including those from the 8 schools where teachers were found cheating openly for candidates in Bundibujo district.
