Kampala Metropolitan Police has confirmed a total of 48 people include the Democratic Party (DP) President Norbert Mao arrested in anti-age limit amendment strikes today.

Addressing the Media this evening at CPS in Kampala, the Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Emilian Kayima says that 25 suspects all students from Makerere University are detained at Wandegeya police station.

23 other people are detained at CPS including FDC’s Ingrid Turinawe who was picked at Arua Park mobilizing traders to strike as well as Mao who was arrested from the parliamentary entrance.

Kayima says they are to consult the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for advice about the charges against these suspects.

Earlier, police fired teargas to disperse protesting students that had attempted to join politicians at city square in Kampala to match and petition the parliament to block the tabling of scrapping off article 102b of the constitution for age limit.

A police helicopter was seen flying in air as motor and foot patrol with Military police monitored the whole University to avoid students from destroying properties within the premises of the institution.
