The fourth East African Community (EAC) summit aimed at propelling infrastructure development and health Financing officially started at Common Wealth Resort Munyonyo with a call to member countries to work as a team to achieve the goal.

President Yoweri Museveni the host in his official address to heads of states and representatives of EAC members said improving the health sector in the region will solve the challenge of major illness that affect production and loss of funds in referrals for specialized treatment abroad.

On the review of the progress in the infrastructure development, Museveni said, the construction of the Mombasa Nairobi corridor is complete and operational while the construction of the crude oil pipeline is on course among other projects.

The two-day retreat is running under the theme;Deepening and widening regional integration through infrastructure and health sector development in the EAC partner states.’’ aimed at accelerating the attainment of the objectives of the EAC development strategy, African Union agenda 2063 and the Sustainable Development Goals in the infrastructure and health sectors in the EAC.

Among the East African presidents present at the summit that started yesterday are the Tanzanian President John Pombe Magufuli, Salvar Kiir of South Sudan, President Paul Kagame and President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya while Paul Kagame of Rwanda sent a representative.
