Two girls have been killed by a falling tree in Kasese district following a heavy storm.

The incident occurred in Kinyamaseke South cell in Kinyamaseke Town Council in Kasese District today.

The deceased have been identified as Evelyn Kabugho 15, a senior three student at Brain Way Secondary School and Evelyn Ithungu, a Congolese national who had come to visit her kinsmen in Kinyamaseke.

The duo had gone to fetch water from Kanyampara water stream when the strong wind that preceded a heavy down pour caused a tree to fall hitting the girls.

The winds also ravaged crops and destroyed buildings worth hundreds of millions of Shillings and affected power distribution in the town council.

The Managing Director Kilembe Investments Limited, Gideon Thembo Mujungu which is charge of power distribution in Kasese, says two poles fell down thus causing the power blackout.
