The Police Spokesperson Asan Kasingye has confirmed that 56 activists who were arrested yesterday against the Amending the age limit clause to see President Museveni stand for another term in office, and have been transferred to Nalufenya police station “on charges of holding unlawful assemblies.”

According to Kasingye, 24 of the demonstrators were nabbed from Magere, 14 from St. Kizito Kakiri and 13 from Gayaza while 5 were caught from Nabutaka, all in Kyadondo East Constituency.

The suspects were found in possession of banners, t-shirts and other materials carrying “messages of a violent defiance campaign.”

Kasingye further revealed that details of the suspects’ particulars will be produced in due course, adding: “they will be produced in court as soon as charges are brought against them as director by the Director of Public Prosecutions.”

President Museveni for the first time while at State House Entebbe yesterday spoke out on the alleged age limit bill, saying it was diversionary.
