The Leader of Opposition in Parliament (LOP), Winnie Kiiza has appealed to the Committee on Legal and Parliamentary Affairs to discard the Age Limit Amendment Bill.

Kizza who was flanked by the opposition Members of Parliament (MPs) to present reservations with the amendment bill before the committee said, Constitutions are for the long term intended to benefits to the society and not short-term goals of the ruler.

They contend that Uganda has capable citizens who can succeed President Museveni and there is no way the amendment could be based on the Supreme Court decision in an election petition case of John Patrick Amama Mbabazi Vs Yoweri Museveni.

Kizza says there are other recommendations and orders of Court but neither the government nor the mover of the bill seems to care, which implies that the Bill before Parliament is premised on erroneous interpretation of the ruling.

She advised that the bill should be referred to a Constitution Review Commission.
