The Deputy Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo has announced that all petitions which were filed challenging the age limit constitutional amendment, will be heard at the Mbale High Court, starting April 4.

Justice Owiny-Dollo made the revelation today during the conferencing sessions where he met all parties that filed petitions challenging the age limit amendment.

Despite pleas from the petitioners’ legal team led by Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, to rethink his decision since his clients like the Leader of Opposition (LOP) Winnie Kiiza (Kasese woman) and opposition chief whip Ssemujju IbrahimNganda (Kira municipality) would prefer Kampala because then their work wouldn’t be affected, the Justice refused to change his mind.

He stated that taking the petition to Mbale is part of court’s policy under his new leadership to take such matters of national importance to different parts of the country and Mbale apparently, fits the bill.

Earlier, Wandera Ogalo, the Uganda Law Society, lawyer, had agreed as it was suggested by Justice Owiny-Dollo, that all the petitions should be consolidated into one for proper management after petitioners meeting on a common ground.

The MPs and Uganda Law Society insist everything in the Constitutional (Amendment) Act 2017 that saw the uplifting of the presidential age limit is unconstitutional.
