The Archbishop of Kampala Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga has raised his voice against the persistent mud-slinging that has reached at the extent of labeling him an enemy to the government.

During the Ash Wednesday Mass at Lubaga Cathedral, Dr. Lwanga says that he feels hurt when some people circulate false rumors that he is conducting campaigns of overthrowing government.

Previously, there were exchanges between sections of government and religious leaders over the latter’s opposition to the Age limit bill, with the president in his new year message accusing religious leaders of arrogance, which later prompted Archbishop Lwanga to remind government as church being not an enemy of the state.

His Grace Lwanga says that Christians should avoid being liars, greed, murders and deceit among others right from the families as part of individual conversion during the lent season.

He says abstaining from food should not be the yardstick for fasting but self examination and if fasting is to be taken at least let one has reserved be taken to those in need.

Dr. Lwanga said false prophecy has derailed many where the so called pastors aim at amassing wealth through concocting miracles.

On the issue of arms giving, he said many have abandoned the vulnerable yet they are part of the society. He cited those who ferry children from the under privileged families and use them to beg for money on the streets of Kampala on their behalf which is bad and the perpetrators must repent.

He however says that the society should imitate the Archdiocesan theme; Remember, Rejoice, Renew” to exploit the lent season to deepen faith, celebrate sacrament of Holy Eucharist and reconciliation that restores the bond between God and humanity.

Meanwhile, Archbishop Lwanga announces March 9th to 10th as dates for perpetual adoration in the following Churches; Lubaga Cathedral Church, Namugongo Martyrs Shrine, Munyonyo Martyrs Shrine, Bugonga Parish Church, Mitala-Maria Parish Church, Wakiso Parish Church, St. Peter’s Nsambya and Y.E.S Centre Nsambya.
