The body of the renowned lawyer Counsel Joseph Mukasa Balikudembe senior has been finally laid to rest at their ancestral grounds at Nzizi Kaganda in Masaka district.

The burial has been attended by Hundreds of mornours among whom were leaders from the Buganda Kingdom led by the speaker of the lukiiko Nelson Kawalya, DP party supporters and the Central government was represented by the Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi

Ssekandi acknowledged the late for his contribution to democracy and the rule of law in Uganda.

Counsel Balikudembe was the lead counsel in the 1999 Paul Kawanga Ssemogerere and Zachary Olumu case whose land mark decision culminated into the 2005 referendum that transformed Uganda from a movement system of governance to multiparty democracy.

The Bishop of Masaka  Rt. Rev. John Baptist Kaggwa was represented by the former Vicar General Msgr, Joseph Kasule in the final requiem mass where he hailed Counsel Balikudembe for being a strong man who lived by his word.

Counsel Balikudembe is also remembered for, him alone sought court interpretation on the September 9, 2009 scuffle when Kabaka Muwenda Mutebi II was stopped from going to Bugerere and court faulted the government decision.

Counsel Balikudembe 76, succumbed to cancer of the throat on Thursday December 30, 2017 at Nsambya Hospital

One of the unique things he will be remembered for, he saved UGX 80 million to cater for his burial. DP through the party president Norbert Mao contributed UGX 10 million towards, Foundation for African Development UGX 3 million and VP Edward Ssekandi UGX 300,000 among others to cater for burial arrangements.
