The Bishop of Bunyoro Kitala Diocese Church of Uganda Rt. Rev. Samuel Kahuma has confirmed before the Land Commission of Inquiry that he is being threatened by the Church of Uganda Land grabbers.

Notable among the property is the 1,633 acreage Land in Kibaale almost taken up by the occupants who are conniving with those who intend to grab it forcefully.

Bishop Kahuma noted that they have occasionally attempted to get them off the church property peacefully but only to be chased after with pangas and spears.

Justice Catherine Bamugemereire with his commissioners is in Bunyoro region investigating land disputes there.

In June this year, the Omukama of Bunyoro Solomon Gafabusa Rukidi while marking his 23rd coronation anniversary at his palace in Hoima, asked the central government to urgently address the issue of land grabbing in Bunyoro, which has left many of his subjects living in poverty.

The fraudulent land acquisition in Bunyoro region has increased after the recovering of oil and this has left many communities fallen victims to either wealthy businessmen seeking to tap into the multi-billion shilling oil and gas service industry of mere speculators seeking to make an extra buck by acquiring land from unsuspecting villagers and selling it expensively to wealthy individuals.
