President Yoweri Museveni has commissioned the first ever splendid bridge in Uganda constructed at the tune of USD 112million (approximately 423bnshs) along River Nile in Jinja.

The 525m long cable- stayed bridge constructed by the Japanese is expected to have a life span of 120 years and is ranked second of its kind in East Africa after Tanzania’s 680m- long Kigamboni Bridge which was commissioned a fortnight ago.

President Museveni who officiated at the commissioning said the new bridge will be used by vehicles and pedestrians yet Boda Boda and bycle riders will use the old one.

However, Museveni expressed his gratitude upon the completion of this project within the budget and expected time frame of 48 months.

Meanwhile; the Minister for Works and Transport Monica Azuba said that the Source of the Nile Bridge has become the main crossing point of vehicles from today onwards.

Allan Ssempebwa, the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) Media Relations Managers said the team has since the beginning of this week been conducting a test programming of the different colors on the bridge ahead of its official commissioning by the President.
