Minister for Finance, Planning and Economic Development Matia Kasaija has indicated a 6 percent of Uganda’s economic growth for the last two years.

 

Reading the budget at Serena Conference Hotel in Kampala, Ksaija says that the average incomes of Ugandans have increased 825 US dollar per person in the financial year 2018/2019 compared to 800 USD per person in last year.

 

He further says that there is a substantial progress made towards achieving middle income status in Uganda.

 

However, he says that Uganda is still faced with the challenges of income inequality, unemployment, and malnutrition and unhealthy lifestyles yet there are 600,000 new entrants in the job market every year.

 

Meanwhile, the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga expressed disappointment over the way this year’s budget was handled citing delays in delivering policy statements.

President Yoweri Museveni who has just returned from a wealth creation tour in Karamoja said he wants to see a modern Uganda but citizens and communities must abandon traditional practices that limit development.

The President specifically rallied the Karimojong to embrace modern agriculture to fight poverty.
