The death toll in the fresh landslides that hit Bududa District yesterday night has risen from three to five people.

Bududa District chairman, Wilson Watira said residents in the affected areas are stranded with no food and shelter.

Landslides swept through several villages in Buwali and Bukalasi sub-countries following heavy rains. Among the dead is an 8-year-old girl a pupil of Bundesi Primary School who was buried by mud. About 150 houses were reportedly razed by the landslides.

Watira He asked the Office of the Prime Minister and other relief agencies to intervene and deliver relief to the area and advised the displaced people to seek sanctuary in churches, schools and other public facilities as they wait for help.

The affected areas are located in hilly areas that are difficult to reach.
