Buganda Kingdom has threatened never to support the controversial amendments to the 1998 Land Act currently before the parliamentary legal committee for scrutiny.

While addressing a gathering at Kaweeri in Buwekula Mubende district for the commemoration of the 24th Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II coronation anniversary, the Buganda’s Premier Charles Peter Mayiga says they can’t be party to the troublesome amendments insisting on government to first hold dialogue on land matters with stake holders to avoid likely problems.

According to government the planned amendment is aimed at compulsorily take private land for national projects and compensations done in court in case the owner resists and seeks a court process.

Mayiga however suggests that government must ensure expeditious land related court processes to ensure justice.

In his speech His majesty Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II appealed to Ugandans to preserve cultural sites for they hold a strong importance in the Kingdom and to the world.

He also reaffirmed the need for men and boys to fight the spread of HIV/AIDS

President Museveni who has been presented by the Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda assented to the Kabaka’s cultural essence and quickly noted that the land amendments are aimed at supporting government projects but was ready to study Katikiro’s advice.
