According to the Ministry of Finance and Health, government is in plans of obtaining a soft loan from Austria to set up four regional cancer centers in Arua, Mbarara, Mbale and Gulu to fight the deadly disease at a the lower level.

Mayengo, one of the breast cancer survivors says that government should also establish policies meant to fight and encourage cancer treatment in the country.

The call comes at a time when Uganda joins the rest of the world to increase awareness about the importance of early diagnosis and treatment.

According to the Uganda Cancer Institute’s experts, cancer cases in the last three years have risen from 1200 to 2800 new cases per year.
