The Archdiocese of Tororo has declared to have raised a half of the money that is needed for the preparation of the June 3rd Uganda Martyrs day celebrations for this year.

This year’s Martyr’s day celebrations at Namugongo Catholic Shrine are expected to cost the church over 720 million shillings according to the animating diocese,  Tororo Archdiocese under the leadership of His Grace Emmanuel Obbo.

Delivering his speech at the Martyrs day Central Organizing Committee meeting at the Uganda Catholic Secretariat (UCS) in Nsambya today, the UEC Secretary General, Msgr. John Baptist Kauta says they have managed to raise only 381 million shillings leaving a balance of almost 400 million shillings.

Msgr. Kauta further says government is at the forefront in the preparations, while Christians from Tororo, Cooperate bodies and the entire country have exhibited greater support towards this cause.

The day that attracts over 1.5 million pilgrims from world over needs to cover areas like Liturgy, pilgrims and protocol, health and sanitation, publicity and public address system and welfare for the preparatory teams that will be on ground right from May 23rd to June 4th 2018.

The day is under the theme; Let us walk in the light of God as a family John 5:1-7

Meanwhile, the UEC Lay Apostolate has organized a forum of the Catholic Professionals to network for united front to support each other and the Church.

The forum is to be held on March 24th at the Silver Springs Hotel Bugoloobi in Nakawa and expected to be presided over by the Deputy Governor Bank of Uganda (BOU) Dr. Louise Kasende.

According to the National Director for Lay Apostolate Fr. Fredrick Tusingire, the Guest Speaker will be the former Vice Chancellor of Uganda Martyrs University Nkozi, Prof. Charles Olwenyi.
