The Uganda Episcopal Conference (UEC) Secretary General Msgr. John Baptist Kauta has challenged government over the credibility and implementation of the Education Act 2008.

Msgr. Kauta says that the act should be improved since the existing one has failed to address the improvement of education standards especially in public schools in the rural areas.

He said this while making his submissions before the Commissioner for Secondary Education Standards from the Ministry of Education and Sports Benson Kule who was delivering his key note address regarding the education act at the Religious, civil and political leaders’ advocacy meeting in Kampala.

Msgr. Kauta says the quality of education in public schools has continued to deteriorate due to lack of teachers, limited scholastic materials, poor facilities and inadequate food among children.

However, Commissioner Kule admits that there are gaps in education service delivery and pins parents for not feeding well their children before they go to schools, a problem he claims that has caused poor performance and school dropout cases rising up.
