The First Lady and Minister for Education and Sports, Janet Kataaha Museveni is expected to be the high profile government official to receive Uganda’s team that participated at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in Australia at Entebbe International Airport tomorrow.

The Commissioner in-charge of Physical Education in the Ministry of Education and Sports Lamex Omara Apita, has told our reporter this afternoon that the First Lady has confirmed that she will personally be at the Airport to welcome the team.

The first batch will arrive on an Emirates flight at 1.50pm after which the two gold medal winner Joshua Kiprui Cheptegi will arrive on a South African Airlines flight 40 minutes later. Government will later host the team to a luncheon Imperial Hotel in Entebbe.

Apita also made it clear that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will host the team on April 22 to a luncheon at the State House in Entebbe. President Museveni has just left for London, England to attend the Commonwealth Heads of government meeting slated for April 19-20.

Uganda finished in 15th place at the Games that climaxed on Sunday. Joshua Kiprui Cheptegei won two gold medals in the 5,000m and 10,000m, while Stella Chesang won the women’s 10,000m gold medal and Mercyline Chelangat got a bronze in the same race and the only Boxer Juma Miiro who also got a bronze medal in the 46-49kg weight category.
