Catholic communicators from all over Uganda gathered at Lugazi Cathedral to mark the 51st world communications day where the ordinary Rt. Rev. Bishop Christopher Kakooza applauded the work of communicators but as a Catholic Church communication is historical where Jesus was the first to commission his disciples to go all over the world and preach the good news.

Bishops Kakooza said right from the  Pope as the main Bishop the ordinaries of the dioceses help in leading the entire Catholic Church to communicate the gospel but this  is noble duty is equally supposed to be taken up by Priests, religious, lay faithful upto the child the agents of evangelization who must disseminate the good news in unison to the Roman Catholic Church.

He wants all people to communicate about the good news instead of only politics and sports but also challenged Catholics to be equipped with the knowledge of the scriptures to avoid shame in case they are consulted.

Bishop Kakooza was leading the Eucharistic celebration to mark the communications day at the cathedral in Lugazi at the end of the long week catholic communicators workshop where the Bishop Chairman of social communications commission at the Uganda Episcopal Conference Rt. Rev. Joseph Franzelli from Lira diocese hailed Lugazi for their preparations for the Communications day in fashion because they even called exhibitors of all kind of communication systems to show case their instruments but hastened to say that they must be used positively not tarnish other people’s names or spoil norms and values but direct society to goodness and hope.

The national coordinator social communications commission Fr. Philip Odii noted networking as Catholic Communicators for effective communications because communication is the heart of relationships.

Fr. Odii appealed to the Minister Muyingo to assist in pushing for the accusation of a Catholic TV station because UCC is still undecided on granting it. He announced the next host diocese for the world communications day will be Nebbi diocese in Gulu ecclesiastical province.

A special fundraising to support the Lugazi social communications department was taken where at least four million shillings was realized both in cash and pledges led by the state minister for higher education J.C.Muyingo who contributed two million shillings together with his wife among other leaders with a promise to assist push for the granting of the Catholic TV license.

Rev. Fr. Joseph Nsubuga the Communications coordinator for Lugazi diocese hailed the congregation for the contribution but said they need more assistance to improve on their public address system, get computers and start a mini recording studio all part of the need to evangelise the peoples.

This year’s social communications day is under the theme; Fear not for am with you Is 43:5, communicating hope and trust in our time.

They planted four trees as part of the campaign to preserve the environment and later were taken around companies which exhibited communication related items.
