The Police deputy Spokesperson Polly Namaye has confirmed that a Congolese cultural leader Abdulrazak Kalemire who was arrested in Uganda last week, is detained at Nalufenya Police Detention Centre in Jinja District

Abdulrazak Kalemire, the cultural leader of the Nande territory of Beni in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) was arrested by police at Mpondwe border post in Kasese District as he travelled from Kampala where he was conducting private business.

Namaye said that the suspect is being jointly investigated by police and other security agencies over suspected cross-border subversive activities but she didn’t give a specific charge to the detainee.

Meanwhile, three police officers and a crime preventer have been detained for torturing 50 year old Wilson Tibesigwa, a farmer in Lubowa Village along Entebbe Road.

The officers arrested by the Police Professional Standards Unit (PSU) are Anena Beatrice, Nelson Nuwamanya and Alex Opito, all attached to the Kirimanyanga Police Post in Wakiso district, as well as Joseph Kateregga, the crime preventer.

Tibesigwa who lost his left eye last week, reported his ordeal to PSU. He was also forced to pay at the police post Shs.100,000 to get a Police bond which is supposed to be free.
