The High court in Kampala has summoned the Minister for Kampala Betty Olive Namisango Kamya to appear on April 24th for cross-examination on allegations that she is interfering with the executive powers of the Lord Mayor Elias Lukwago.

The summons have been issued by Justice Hennrietta Wolayo upon a request by Lukwago’s lawyer Chrysostom Katumba as the case had come up for hearing.

However, the judge has ordered both Kamya and Lukwago to first seek for opportunity of settling their differences out of court by the help of a court appointed mediator before the case goes through a full trial on the mentioned date in case of failure.

Lukwago dragged Kamya to court accusing her of illegally posing- as the political head of the city to the extent of suspending council meetings of January 23rd / January this year aimed at discussing on the best way to govern the city.

According to court documents, Kamya stalled the council meetings on grounds that they are illegal and no longer relevant to the city a decision that Lukwago describes as irrational and unreasonable by a person not duly elected as a leader in the city.

In his petition, Lukwago seeks orders to quash Kamya’s decision regarding the legality of Council meetings and other decisions such as subjecting all his out of the country travels as the Lord Mayor to a “ministerial permit “.
