Three Judges of the Court of Appeal have dismissed with costs an election petition challenging the election of Charles Musoke Serunjogi as the duly elected Mayor of Kampala Central Division.

Judges Remmy Kasule, Hellen Obura and Richard Butera in their judgment read by Deputy Registrar Didas Muhereza; upheld an earlier decision by High Court judge Atwooki Rugadya who dismissed the petition by Muhammad Kibedi Nsegumire for failing to prove beyond reasonable doubt most of the allegations including one of defamation he raised in his appeal.

The judges however, pointed out that the trial judge erred by accepting results from four polling stations which were cancelled, even after receiving evidence from a handwriting expert and the returning officer showing that results from those stations were wrong and couldn’t be based upon.

Upon the ruling, Nsegumire, accepted the outcomes and promised to work with the victor, Serunjogi in developing the city.

Serunjogi, on the other hand, accompanied by his supporters and City Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, Rubaga North Hon Kasibante Moses and Makindye East MP Hon Allan Sewanyana, gratefully welcomed this ruling and promised to continue working to help his constituents.
