Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) under the Tax Justice Alliance Uganda have accused parliament for being the greediest institution after a proposal of Members of Parliament having their taxes on Over the Top (OTT) services amounting to 197million shillings paid for them.

They also mentions out the 500bnshs of tax exempted for selected private companies on whose behalf, government was expected to pay and these include, Quality Chemicals, Southern Range Nyanza and BIDCO among others.

Addressing a Joint Press Conference at the Southern and Eastern Africa Trade Information and Negotiations Institute (SEATINI) headquarters in Ntinda, the Manager of Democratic Governance Fredrick Kawooya says that they recommend Parliament to stay the proposal taxes on OTT for MPS.

The Anti Corruption Coalition Uganda (ACCU) Executive Director Cissy Kagaba says that an independent remuneration body should be established to determine salaries and benefits for all public servants including MPs.

She further calls on the Auditor General to undertake a comprehensive audit foe all expenditures in Uganda and publish such information to ensure fiscal transparency and accountability.
