The Deputy Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanya has directed for a detailed statement from the Internal Affairs Ministry explaining the security situation in the Greater Masaka region and the steps taken by government to address the matter.

This is after the Woman Member of Parliament for Masaka district Babirye Kabanda in the plenary requested for a special investigation by the parliamentary security committee on the killings in the area.

Kabanda explained that similar killings of panga wilding groups started in February 2017 with lives lost and many injured without a conclusive report from the security organs.

She also wants other affected families to be accorded the same assistance in terms of compensation of 5 million shillings President Museveni gave each family that was affected in the attack of December 31, 2017

Meanwhile, the Shadow Internal Affairs Minister Muwanga Kivumbi also supported an independent investigation over such killings including other areas like Wakiso, Teso and parts of Northern Uganda among others.

Five people including a retired police officer were killed and 12 others are nursing injuries after they were attacked and hacked by unknown thugs between midnight and 2am as Ugandans were celebrating the New Year.
