Thousands of members of the opposition Democratic Party (DP) and its youth wing, the Uganda Young Democrats (UYD) have gathered at Makerere University Rugby grounds for the grand UYD reunion aimed at building unity and cohesion in Uganda’s oldest political party.

The event was graced by several DP party members, International political figures, Independent Party leaders and Mayors.

FDC’s Gen. Mugisha Muntu, PDP’s Abed Bwanika, JEEMA’s Asumani Basalirwa, former Presidential Candidate, Joseph Mabirizi, Kyadondo East MP, Robert Kyagulanyi among others also attended.

The keynote speakers expressed readiness to genuine reconciliation as well as forging a way forward to “redeem Ugandans from the NRM rule.”

The DP National Youth Leader, Christopher Okidi said it brought them joy to see their forefathers seated together and united for a common cause.”

Busiro South MP, Medard Segona said it was time Uganda dealt with divisions within the political parties so as to save the country from the “political rape it is trapped right now.”

Segona said this reunion should come with tolerance and forgiveness from all members, with the aim of forging away forward of working together for the betterment of the country.

Praying for the party, Pastor Bwanika cautioned DP for failure to establish it’s self by standing behind other candidates instead of its own members.

However, the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament Betty Nambooze Bakireke together with the anticipated Kenyan Opposition leader Raila Omoro Odinga didn’t turn up for the function.
