In a bid to improve on the health and productive life of Ugandans, the Uganda Medical Association (UMA) has launched a medical campaign across the country to sensitize health workers over their rights and responsibilities.

According to the President UMA Dr. Ekwaro Obuku, health workers have a great contribution to ineffective and poor health service delivery due to absenteeism from work, professional negligence, miss conduct, poor medical knowledge and skills among others leading to high prevalence of maternal death.

He wants government to introduce pre- entry health exams as an intervention to curb on such challenges.

Obuku has also called for the rationalization of salaries for all medical officers because government only considered enrolled doctors and nurses who each earn at least UGX3m.

Meanwhile, Obuku applauded government for increasing health sector budget in the last financial year from UGX1.8trillion to 2.3trillion and that of the national medical stores to UGX41b, but questioned why there is increasing drug stock outs in public health facilities especially in rural areas.
