The Inspector General of Police Gen Kale Kayihura, has confirmed that two of the three foreign nationals who were found dead in their hotel rooms in Kampala and Nwoya district days ago succumbed to drugs and suspected poisoning.

The deceased are 42 year old Tersvouri Toomajuha Petteri, a Finnish national who died at Pearl of Africa Hotel on February 8, Alex Sebastian, 41, who died at Sheraton Hotel on February 6; and 61 year old Montie Watson, who was found dead at Bwana Tembo Safari Camp Lodge in Nwoya district last Saturday.

Addressing the media this evening at Naguru Police headquarters, Kayihura, who is also leading the ongoing investigations in the deaths, noted however, that while the deaths seem identical, they are not in any way connected.

In the same conference, Kayihura brought in experts led by Dr. Kepher Kuchana Kateu from the Government Analytical Lab, who conducted postmortem on the bodies of the deceased.

In his address, Dr Kuchana says they were ordered by Police to establish whether drug or alcohol contents had been consumed by the deceased.

On running tests on stomach contents, blood, urine and liver of Alex Sebastian who died at Sheraton, Kuchana , they found significant amounts of cocaine, morphine, and opioids as well as elements which could be found in pesticides such as Diazinon.

In the body of Toomajuha which was found at Pearl of Africa Hotel, the doctor says similar tests came out positive of the same drugs although there was a substance they failed to identify.

The body of the American national who died in Nwoya is still being examined and Dr Kuchana promised that by tomorrow the results would be out.

Meanwhile the IGP said a number of arrests have been made, among them a woman identified as Fatuma Kabagambe who is believed to be the girlfriend of Toomajuha and is held for drug dealing.

He however, said the death of the American citizen in Nwoya doesn’t seem related to drugs.
