Opposition Democratic Party (DP) has challenged the Minister of State for Youth, Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi who yesterday during the 55th Independence Day celebrations, reportedly paraded before President Museveni, what she called a group of DP leaders.
The Minister presented the group and told President Museveni that these were DP leaders from the western region that attended the celebrations which had been shunned by the national party members.
The DP party Presidential Press Secretary, Fred Mwesigwa says that the said DP leaders are not known anywhere in the party structures.
Mwesigwa says the minister was only attempting a cheap popularity shot and urged the public and President Museveni not to take her seriously.
He went on to clarify that DP currently has no such leaders in the Ankole leaders as presented by the minister.
Mwesigwa emphasizes that the party is still unable to reach the minister for a comment on the accusations.
