The opposition Democratic Party President Norbert Mao has attacked government for being behind the ongoing country wide hyper sugar prices saying its officials dealing in the product are hooding it to exploit Ugandans.

In a weekly press conference at the party headquarters in Kampala Mao tasks the Trade Minister Amelia Kyambande to lead the opening of the sugar store campaigns for a short term solution and a massive tax reform should be taken never to have a similar problem in the country.

Mao says that not only sugar prices have been hiked but also other essential commodities like matooke, fuel, posho, and drugs all attributed to high taxes levied by the government.

Last week Minister America Kyambadde warned retailers never to sale a kilo of sugar beyond 5000/= that they will be de-licensed but a kilogram has reached 7000/= to 9000/=

Mao also threatened to organize demonstration over the escalating insecurities in most parts of the country challenging security agencies of negligence and cautioning the Police Spokesperson Asan Kasingye to communicate pro-active actions than politicking while addressing the public.

On the Kyadondo East bi-election, Mao said they are rallying behind their candidate Lillian Babirye instead of Ssentamu Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine since he failed to convince the party on his candidature.
