The Democratic Party has advised president Museveni to retire and give Ugandans a chance to carry out a peaceful transition of power if democracy is to be counted for the first time in Uganda.

Addressing journalists at DP headquarters, the party Secretary General Gerald Seranda says Article 102 (b) is the only defensive mechanism to change Museveni’s monarchism.

This comes after President Yoweri Museveni celebrated his 70 years of baptism and showed its dates of August 3rd 1947 at St Luke Church of Uganda, Kinoni Archdeaconry in Rwampara, Mbarara district. He was then two years an 11 months old.

This confirmed that if the constitution is not amended, President Museveni who turns 73 next month will not be eligible to seek a re-election in the next general elections of 2021.

Meanwhile, Seranda condemns Police for restricting DP’s KOJIKWATAKO campaign and arresting their colleagues saying the force is acting in the interest of the NRM party which is wrong.
