The opposition Democratic Party (DP) has pronounced its support to the Forum for Democratic change (FDC) candidate Paul Mwiru in the Jinja East Constituency parliamentary by- election.

The process for the by-election that followed the nullification of the area MP over electoral malpractice started late last month with the display of registers and expected to end on March 15th.

However, nominations are taken place today and already Mwiru of FDC together with the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Nathan Igime Nabetta has been dully nominated.

Addressing the media today in Kampala, the DP President Norbert Mao disclosed that opposition parties decided to join forces in case of any by-election against all NRM MPs who supported the lifting of the presidential age limit hence calling on all party supporters to support Mwiru.

Meanwhile, Police has deployed heavily at Jinja district offices and installed roadblocks to limit access to the premises as candidates are nominated today and tomorrow with the third person to be nominated today is Faizal Mayemba (independent) supervised by Rogers Sserunjjogi, the returning officer for Jinja district.

Candidates expected to be nominated on the last day include Christine Abuze and Andrew Ikona among others.
