Former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye has been denied police bond from Nagalama Police Station in Mukono where he is still detained for inciting the public that injured a police officer and holding unlawful assembly.

Dr Besigye was last evening arrested along with FDC presidential candidate Patrick Amuriat and the party secretary for mobilisation Ingrid Turinawe at Burambira village in Bubaare Sub-county in Rubanda District on their way from Rukungiri to Kabale District.

The Regional Police Commander Denis Namuwoza said Dr Besigye is wanted in Rukungiri where he allegedly commanded a group of people who pelted stones at the police officers as they tried to disperse FDC supporters who had gathered to listen to Eng. Patrick Amuriat who was in the district to solicit for votes ahead of the FDC presidential election.

Kawempe South MP, Mubarak Munyagwa who visited Besigye at Nagalama said that (detainees) had been denied bond even after him and the Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago had offered to stand surety for them.

Polices says the charges against them are serious and they can only be released after being arraigned in court.

Meanwhile the party secretary general Nandala Mafaabi while addressing the journalists at Najjanankumbi today has vowed to challenge the Police officers and other state agents in court over their brutal attack on human rights and freedoms of Ugandans.

Nandala says police has forgotten it mandate of keeping law and order saying they are to target individual officers who have been at the center of violating rights.
