The Electoral Commission has clarified that no candidate in Kyandondo East Wakiso district has ever been permitted to hold a rally at Kasangati play ground.

Addressing journalists at the EC headquarters, the Commission Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama said that the place consists of a school and a healthy facility which restrict candidates under the law from hosting rallies.

This followed the early morning scuffle where, police in Kasangati arrested independent candidate vying for Kyadondo East parliamentary seat Robert Kyagulanyi popularly known as Bobi Wine over attempt to hold his last rally at the Kasangati play ground. He was detained at Kasangati police station and later transferred to Kira Police station from where he was released to ease the tension that had been mounted by his supporters at the police station.

However, Byabakama confirms that voting materials are already prepared for June 29th polls in Kyadondo East and expecting only 72818 voters to participate in the elections in 73 polling stations.

He further warns against the deployment of bouncers to guard elections in Kyadondo East saying that such an act is unlawful but only those accredited polling agents will be allowed to perform that duty.

Meanwhile, the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) candidate in Kyadondo East Constituency Apollo Kantinti in his final rally at Kitti in Wampeewo has called upon area voters not to be diverted with money distributed by NRM but vote someone who will address their problems.

Addressing supporters at Wampewo play ground, Kantiti said that it was the Electoral commission’s mistakes and partisanship that led him to lose his seat in Parliament but is confident to regain it.

The party big gun, Dr. Kizza Besigye advised voters to vote someone who will represent the party goals in Parliament.

The seat fell vacant in April after Court of Appeal led by three justices; Richard Buteera, Cheborion Balishaki and Paul Mugamba upheld the lower court decision that nullified the election of Kantinti as the Kyadondo East Constituency Member of Parliament.
