Electoral Commission has cancelled and postponed polls in 633 out of the registered 60,800 villages across the country citing electoral violence. Only Karamoja out of the 12 electoral regions was able to conducts polls in all designated polling stations.

The Commission cancelled polls in 230 polling stations in Kira region, making it the region with the highest number of cancelled polls.

Kampala Region came second with 127 polling stations followed by Northern Region 56, Central North Region 42, Mid-west/Rwenzori 33, Albertine Region 31, South West Region 31, Central South Region 25, Central South Region 24, Far Eastern Region 15, Elgon Region 12 and West Nile Region 07.

In his statement issued on Tuesday evening, the Electoral Commission Chairperson, Justice Byabakama Simon, says the chaos at the polling stations that led to the cancellation of the polls was caused by unregistered voters who came to vote with their National I’D.

Meanwhile, 57 polling stations experienced violence and chaos in Kampala metropolitan area, covering the districts of Kampala, Wakiso and Mukono. The area has 2,108 polling stations.

The areas which experienced violence and chaos include polling stations in Kawempe, Namasuba, Nakivubo, Kireka Central, Kyambogo, Masanafu, Shauriyako, Pioneer mall, Railway, Industrial areas, Katabi, Lweza, Magada, Nakifuma west and Kiganda, among others.
