The Electoral Commission has set November 28th as the date for the Busia LCV chairperson by-elections.

The Electoral Commission chairperson Simon Byabakama, says that during the by-election, the commission will also conduct elections for about 15 other lower local government councils that are vacant in the district.

The Busia LCV seat fell vacant in May when court of appeal nullified the election of Adea Ouma.

Byabakama said as a commission they are to have a number of activities for the by-election that include a stakeholders meeting with LCI chairpersons, district leaders and other interested parties such as political parties’ representatives, security officials, and religious leaders among others to foster collaboration.

The election that is to cost about 790 million shs will start with update of the voters register on 18th to 22nd this month, display of register and issuance of voting location slip between 6th and 14th November, nomination of candidates on 6th and 7th November at the Busia district headquarters, Campaigns for 18 days starting on 9th to 26th November and the by-election on 28th November.

Busia had 234 polling stations and 151,798 voters as of August 5th 2018.

Meanwhile the EC secretary, Sam Rwakoojo ays they are waiting for supplementary budget of 2.5 billion shillings to organise elections for Woman Member of Parliament and Local Government Councils in the six newly created districts of Nabilatuk, Kapelebyong, Bugweri, Kwania, Kassanda and Kikuube.
