Members of Parliament on the Education Committee have tasked officials from the Education Ministry to address the salary disparities in the sector.

This was when the Education and Sports Minister, Janet Museveni, led a team of officials from the education ministry before the parliamentary education committee chaired by Pallisa County MP Jacob Opolot to present their budget estimates for the coming financial year 2019/2020 that  has increased from the 2.78 trillion shillings to 3.28 trillion shillings according to the set needs.

Opolot said that it was important that the issue of salary disparities within the sector is urgently handled adding that the increment of salaries for science teachers, it was brought to the attention of the committee that they were earning more than commissioners which was unfair.

Alex Kakooza, the Education Ministry Permanent Secretary, said that the ministry had constituted an inter-ministerial committee with representatives from the ministries of Public Service, Education and Sports and Associations of Tutors, lecturers, instructors and teaching staff to identify the nature and causes of the pay disparities and propose strategies to address them.
