The state minister for Energy Simon D’ujanga together with his permanent secretary Dr. Robert Isabaija have been grilled for illegal displacement of miners in Mubende District using the security forces.

They had appeared before the Natural Resources committee of parliament chaired by Isingiro South MP Alex Byarugaba to account for the performance of the ministry.

Kasanda North MP in Mubende District Patrick Nsamba explained to the committee how harshly over 60,000 Ugandans were treated in the chase operation led by the UPDF and the Police from Rugingi mining center in Mubende two weeks ago in favor of an investor in the names of “Game stone mining” company accusing government of disowning its own people.

In his defense, the PS, Dr. Robert Isabaija explained that the artisan miners were involving in unacceptable mining processes using bulldozers, trucks, excavators and deadly chemicals like mercury which is destructive to the environment however they gave them three months to study and see who can be allowed back in the mine.

The committee later resolved to take a fact finding mission next week in the said mining center to ascertain the challenges faced by the peasants.
