A group of 30 foot pilgrims from Bushenyi in south western Uganda led by a 97 year old Mzee has finally made it to the Catholic Shrine Namugongo.

The group left Bushenyi  for a 321 Km journey two weeks ago and have been making stop overs with the last to Namugongo was at the Bakateyamba Home Nalukolongo a place managed by the Good Samaritan Sisters where they slept yesterday.

They are joining 20 other foot pilgrims from Galiraya in Kayunga Lugazi diocese and Kasanda in Kiyinda Mityana diocese who arrived at the Catholic Shrine Namugongo on Sunday.

Another group of more than 200 foot pilgrims form Gulu in Northern Uganda is also trekking a 300 Km journey to Namugongo and are currently at Nakasongola almost half way the journey.

This year’s martyrs day celebrations held on June 3rd are to be led by Gulu Archdiocese under the guidance of His Grace Archbishop John Baptist Odama with the theme; “Obey God Always and Every Where” .

This year’s martyr’s day celebration also coincided with the centenary anniversary of the martyrdom of the blessed Daudi Okello and Gildo Irwa.

Munyonyo Martyrs Shrine has produced a program for the 9 day novena leading to the final day of the celebrations at the Catholic Shrine Namugongo.

The novena will start this Saturday May 25th 2019 at 5pm to June 2nd with prayers and special reflections dedicated for each day starting with martyrs St. Joseph Balikuddembe and Anthanasius Bazzekuketta, and there after mass led by Fr. Anthanasius Musajjakawa.
