The National Coordinator of Operation Wealth Creation Gen. Salimu Saleh born Caleb Akandwanaho has been mentioned in a new dubious copper scandal in Kasese region.
According to the Leader of Opposition in Parliament who is also the Kasese woman Member of Parliament Winfred Kizza, General Saleh purportedly fronted an area company dealing in repairing car batteries called CATL international to take over Kilembe copper mine.
Kizza alleges that Gen. Saleh received 1.7bnshs as a bid to accord and also persuades government to award CATL International Company a concession to run the mining center after the expiration of the contract of a Chinese Tibent-Hima mining company.
She says Gen. Saleh with the fake investor are planning to deplete minerals from Kilembe in a crude way which will put Uganda at a loss of over 45 US million dollars.
Kizza who was accompanied by Kasese Municipality MP Robert Centenary alleges that even Tibent–Hima Mining Company was not fit for the concession, but got it through back doors after meeting with the Permanent Secretary for Finance Ministry Keith Muhakanizi, Minister of Energy Iren Muloni and the current Attorney General William Byaruhanga.
However, MPs appealed to Gen. Saleh to leave the Kasese copper mines and also withdraw UPDF deployed in the area since the locals are ready to protect their resources.
