After the successful celebrations of the Uganda Martyrs day celebrations on June 3rd 2019, the Catholic Church in Uganda is working for yet another big event, the celebrations of the Golden Jubilee of the Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar SECAM that is to be held in Uganda.

SECAM delegates will be jetting in the country in the mid of July with a special meeting that will start from around July 18th 2019 for the technical teams and later they will be joined by the Bishops leading to the final celebrations on July 29th 2019 at the Martyrs Shrine Namugongo.

The Archbishop of Kampala Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga says President Yoweri Museveni has offered to buy all the vestments for all the Bishops as his contribution to such a high level gathering in Uganda for the 50 years celebrations.

SECAM celebrations will be under the theme “Church, Family of God in Africa, celebrate your Jubilee, proclaim, meet and welcome Christ your savior.” And Dr. Lwanga has called on not only Christians but all Ugandans to participate in the preparations and attend the grand celebrations.

The objective of the jubilee is to thank God for His wonders and marvelous deeds, the gift of Baptism and of the Church, to ponder on the progress made so far with the aim of deepening the roots in Christ.

“SECAM was established with the will of young African bishops during the second Vatican Council (1962-1965), they wanted to speak with one voice,” It was launched by St. Paul VI when he visited Uganda in 1969.
