Government has so far deposited USD 480,000 approximately UGX 1.8 bn to purchase 6 Aircrafts under the ideal infrastructural programs aimed at driving Uganda to middle income status.

The Minister of Works and Transport, Monica Ntege Azuba, while releasing the achievements and failures of the ministry for the last two years at Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA)offices at kyambogo  said that the Airlines are going to boost tourism in the country as well as Transport of goods and services for development .

Azuba adds that  the sector has plans to construct more Airports in different parts of the country like; Arua ,Gulu  and Kasese among others and one international Airport at Hoima that will aid the Oil project that is expected to be operational by December this year.

They are to start with four aircrafts and two will follow by next year. But some sections of the public are questioning the authenticity of her statements given the amount said to be saved to purchase aircrafts.

Meanwhile Azuba has disclosed that the sector has achieved 58% of its plans according to the NRM manifesto 0f 2016-2021 due to roads they have constructed, railway line, ports for ferries among in last two years and many other transport infrastructures are in final stages to be completed in next FY2018/19.
