The Government should consider the Martyrs day celebrations in the national budget because it’s an international event that cannot be ignored.

The proposal was made by the Chief Whip Ruth Nankabirwa before the Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda saying that the budget should be shared by all the; Catholic Church, Anglican church and Muslims.

This was during her speech as the Chairperson Organizing Committee of the Martyrs day celebrations at the Anglican Martyrs Shrine in Namugongo -Nakiyanja Wakiso district.

She further declared the commencement of phase two redevelopment of the site that involves the construction of an amphitheatre that covers the whole place to avoid rain and sunshine that disturb the pilgrims.

At the coming of Pope Francis to Uganda in 2015 November 27th to 29th a lot of redevelopment of both the Catholic and Anglican shrines was made supported by the government to match to international standards.

Since then the number of people coming for prayers and tourisms has increased tremendously coming from as far as Netherlands and Australia to visit Namugongo Martyrs’ shrines.
