The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal husbandry and Fisheries has issued an alert on fraudsters targeting farmers, extension officers and members of the public.

The Assistant Commissioner for Communication and Information at the Directorate of Agriculture Extension Services in the Agriculture Ministry Consolata Acayo, says they have registered complaints from various people indicating that they had received phone calls from people claiming to be staff from the ministry.

According to Acayo, the conmen call their victims inviting them for training in countries like Ghana, South Africa and Ethiopia and ask them for money to process their travel documents.

She explains that the conmen charge their victims between Shillings 200,000 and 400,000 reportedly for processing a visa and other travel documents to enable you travel to that country for the training.

Acayo informs the media in Kampala that whenever the Ministry has training offers for the extension staff or farmers, the Ministry makes communication in writing to the Chief Administrative Officers of the beneficiary districts and copies in the District Production and Marketing officers.

However, Acayo advises farmers, members of the public and extension officers to demand official communication whenever they receive such calls.
