Government has embarked on the efforts of eliminating Female Gentle Mutilation (FGM) practices that are reportedly resumed in a high speed especially in the areas of Sebei and Karamoja region.

The State Minister for Gender and Culture Peace Mutuzo says that in these efforts, government is set to establish two radio stations in Sebei and Karamoja regions and also support the already created Kenya- Uganda Cross Boarder Board in fighting the practice.

Saying this, the Minister was addressing a press conference at the Uganda Media Center in Kampala about the country’s preparations of making the World Culture Day tomorrow May 21st.

Mutuuzo says that before FGM had reduced to 0.03 percent but in the last year and early 2019 they have received reports indicating some ladies cross the border to Kenya and offer themselves for circumcision and later returns to Uganda.

At least 200 million girls and women alive today have had their genitals mutilated –suffering one of the most inhuman acts of gender-based violence in the world.
