Government has ordered Nation Oil Distributers, the operators of MV Kalangala to halt operations so as to help retrieve MV K Palm vessel that capsized on Saturday evening while transporting more than 100 people to K Palm beach in Mpatta Sub County in Mukono District.

More than 30 bodies have been recovered and at least 26 people rescued but more than 50 others are still missing four days after the accident.

Police and the army entered their third day today working with local fishermen to retrieve the boat from the lake.

Now, Benon Kajuna, the Acting Works Ministry Permanent Secretary has written to Sadala Musoke, the managing director Nation Oil Distributors to halt the operations of MV Kalangala and use it to salvage the capsized vessel to recover the remaining bodies that could be trapped underneath.

According to Kajuna, in absence of MV Kalangala People moving to and from Kalangala using Port Alice Entebbe – Kalangala route are advised to use SENCATA boat to reach their destinations.

The Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has sent condolences to the bereaved families for the loss of their dear ones acknowledging the need to review the marine act to suit the current situation.
