Gulu University is likely to lose its faculty of Medicine, two sports pitches, research laboratory and students’ hostel buildings sitting on 28 hectares of land that formerly belonged to Gulu Central Forest Reserve.

Gulu district land board is said to have leased the land to the University in 2005 from the 93 hectares owned by the Gulu central forest reserve to plant trees but went on to establish a faculty of medicine with a third party Green Pack Ltd which also erected students’ hostels.

6 hectare of Gulu Central Forest Reserve land is already occupied by other developers including SOS Children Village and Christ Embassy Church among others.

Appearing before the Land Commission of Inquiry in Kampala, the Gulu University Secretary Moses Bukenya Sseguya admitted on behalf of the institution to have given out the 4 acres of the land to Green Packs limited on unclear memorandum of understanding but said it was cleared by the university.

It’s on that back ground that the commission asked Sseguya to make sure the illegal occupants vacate the land which he concurred with not later than next week.

Meanwhile, Patrick Oyat a brother to Dr. George Otto the owner of the Green Packs Limited which constructed a UGX 2 Billion hostel that houses medical students, accepted to inform his brother who is in Toronto USA for the away forward. However according to the agreement they posses convicts the university to pay him in case of any loss which monies would be met by the government.
