The Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC) has condemned the violent acts exhibited in the ongoing consultation rallies on the constitutional amendment of the presidential age limit in the country.

Addressing the media in Kampala, the UHRC Commissioner Meddie Mulumba says they have of recent registered a total of 190 complaints out of which 165 are human rights violations arising from the age limit discussions.

This comes after two people including a 22 year old Edison Nasasira were killed last week when police was dispersing supporters of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) in Rukungiri district.

Mulumba has also accused police for consistently abusing the rights of suspects who have been detained beyond the mandatory 48 hours especially on the age limit scuffles recorded in Rukungiri, Buliisa, Kyankwanzi and Jinja among others.

He condemned the ban imposed on Kyadondo East legislator’s music shows, joint consultations by the MPs, dispersing public rallies and gatherings promising to meet with the police leadership to discuss the matter.

Kaggwa says they have picked interest in the Rukungiri incident where one Edson Nasasira was killed in the scuffle as police engaged in running battles with the public and FDC supporters.
